Fraud Notice: Someone Is Impersonating Make Waves Marketing by Email

Which email addresses are fraudulent?

These are the addresses we know about as of September 2026. The person behind them creates a new one each time an account is shut down, so a message from an address not on this list can still be fraudulent. Use the verification rules below rather than relying on this list alone.

How do I know an email is really from Make Waves Marketing?

• Our email only ever comes from the domain makewavesnow.com. We do not send client work from Gmail or any other free email service.
• Our invoices only ever come from Zoho Billing and are paid through the link inside that invoice.
• We will never change our payment or banking details by email.
• We will never ask you to pay through a wire transfer, a payment app, a freelance marketplace, gift cards or cryptocurrency.
• If anything looks unusual, call 985.291.0623 before you pay. Use that number, not a number printed in an email.

What should I do if I received one of these emails?

• Do not reply to the sender and do not click any payment link.
• Do not grant the sender access to your website, your accounts or your systems.
• Forward the email to david@makewavesnow.com so we can add it to our report.
• Do not delete the email or mark it as spam. We may need the original.
• If you already sent money, contact your bank or card issuer the same day and ask about a recall or dispute, then file a report at ic3.gov.

Has Make Waves Marketing been hacked?

No. Our systems, our email and our clients' website credentials were not accessed. The fraudulent emails are sent from outside accounts created by a third party, not from our domain. We completed a full review of our email, access logs and administrative permissions in September 2026 and found no unauthorized access.

What is Make Waves Marketing doing about it?

We reported this to the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center and the Federal Trade Commission, and to every platform the fraudulent accounts have used. One platform has already banned the account involved. We notified every client in writing. We are continuing to pursue it and we update this page as things change.

Are you an agency or business owner seeing something similar?

If you run an agency and your clients are receiving emails impersonating you, the pattern is worth knowing. The messages are individually researched, reference real problems on the target's live website, and are written in the voice of the agency being impersonated.
